TCU Basketball adds Andre Rafus to 2017 class

Today the TCU Men's Basketball Team added their fifth commitment to the 2017 class with the addition of 6-foot-10 small forward Andre Rafus Jr. Rafus will be joining the Horned Frogs after a senior season at Lake Clifton HS in Baltimore, MD where he averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game and led his team to the second round of the playoffs.

Rafus will be joining Keller, TX combo guard RJ Nembhard, Houston center Kevin Samuel, JUCO forward Andre Pierce from Lee College and Australian forward Lat Mayan in Fort Worth in the fall of 2017. The Horned Frogs are in their first season under new head coach Jamie Dixon and are having their best season since 1998-99.

I talked with Andre earlier today to get his thoughts on why he chose TCU and what he can add to the Horned Frogs next season.

What made TCU the final choice for you?

"They are a rising team. Watching the Kansas game earlier in the year (Dec. 30) when they lost 86-80 was big. Hopefully next year I can help us get that win."

Who was the main recruiter in the process for TCU?

"Coach Ryan Miller saw me when we played a tournament in Las Vegas and we had dinner. He's been to see me in Maryland three times this year."

Have you been to Fort Worth yet for a visit?

"No, but I'll be coming in for an official visit in the next few weeks."

Our fans are really excited to have you, how do you feel today?

"I feel great, really excited to be joining the Frogs."

What can you do to help this team next year?

"I'm 6'10" and play small forward, but I can also play the four (Power Forward) so I can create mismatches on the floor."

Rafus chose TCU over North Carolina State, Georgetown, Seton Hall and Kansas amongst others. Frogs are getting a real good one with Rafus.
