What a week for Jim Schlossnagle and the Horned Frogs.
TCU baseball was slated to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday, but rain forced the game to Wednesday before the Frogs headed down to Houston for the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. The Frogs didn’t disappoint.
Wednesday vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff (TCU 17 - Ark. Pine Bluff 3)
TCU fell behind 3-0 early against Arkansas-Pine Bluff but the bats came alive shortly after that for 17 unanswered runs as the Frogs rolled to a 17-3 win. Elliot Barzilli had four hits with his first homer of the season and 3 RBIs. Freshman Devon Roedahl made his first career start going three innings and giving up two earned runs. Dalton Horton went two with no earned runs. Ryan Burnett, Sean Wymer, Mitch Seward, and Dalton Brown each went an inning and none of them gave up a run.
Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas
Friday vs. No. 6 Louisiana-Lafayette (TCU 7 - UL-Lafayette 1)
Junior Brian Howard went six and 2/3 giving up the only run despite Lafayette getting seven runners in the first three innings. Connor Wanhanen, Barzilli and Dane Steinhagen had three hits apiece, with Barzilli and Steinhagen driving in three runs and Wanhanen driving in two. Ryan Burnett and Durbin Feltman finished off the final two and 1/3 innings without allowing a run.
Saturday vs. No. 25 Rice (TCU 10 - Rice 0)
For the second consecutive week, freshman Luken Baker threw six shutout innings and hit a homer to propel the Frogs to victory. Barzilli stayed hot, hitting his second homer of the season and driving in three runs. Drew Gooch pitched a scoreless seventh as TCU was able to invoke the 10-run mercy rule after seven innings against Rice.
Sunday vs. No. 9 Houston (TCU 10 - Houston 1)
The Frogs scored in double-digits for the third time in four games, and the TCU pitching staff again shut down the opponent’s offense. Freshman Josh Watson hit his first homer of the year and had 3 RBIs. Junior Rex Hill started and went four innings while allowing one run. Jared Janczak went two innings and got his first win of the season. Preston Guillory, Durbin Feltman, and Brian Trieglaff each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the Cougars.
