TCU Women’s Basketball Coach Raegan Pebley joined Billy and I yesterday on the podcast and I wanted to recap some of the things we talked about from the show and a few things we talked about that weren’t in the podcast.
First of all, I loved how she said that TCU isn’t for everyone. She talked about how it’s about building relationships and TCU is a family. The players that they recruit have to be team players and family oriented. They have to think as everyone from the trainers to the best player as teammates.
Another point she made was how social media has changed the game of recruiting. She pointed out that at other institutions have recruited players inly via social media and never actually seen or talked to the player. That blew my mind.
Raegan Pebley talked about how she is a mom and wife first and coach second and she didn’t know how to turn that off. If I’m sending my daughter off to college, it is great to know that she would have a motherly figure there guiding here and helping her grow in to adulthood.
If you weren’t excited about this recruiting class, the seventh ranked class of 2016, you should be. Five new freshmen coming in including the first ever McDonald’s All-American, Amber Ramirez in TCU Basketball history, Men’s or Women’s. Three Top 100 recruits and one of the top Australian players as well. She also talked about the flexibility of her lineups due to her recruiting skill and not just height.
She said the number one reason that she took the job as WNBA color analyst for the Dallas Wings is so TCU Women’s Basketball could get more exposure. That is huge for not just our program, but Women’s Basketball in general.
We even got her to talk about Big 12 expansion and she said she welcomes any team that reflect the Big 12 academically, add more viewers, extend their recruiting footprint and most importantly adds better competition.
We talked to her about Zahna Medley before the show and she said she had been signed by the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA for a tryout, but had released and Zahna would be going over to Europe to play professionally, but nothing had been finalized yet. We will have updates with Zahna’s progress as we get them.
