Practice Report 8-18

TCU finished its fall camp Friday. It will have a scrimmage Saturday before school gets going next week and Meet the Frogs on Aug. 26.

TCU coach Gary Patterson discussed several facets of the team after the final two-a-day practice.

Strong safety group

Ray Issahaku has really stepped up. Innis Gaines has been banged up. Garrett Wallow is coming along and we're waiting for Lakendrick Van Zandt to get off the shelf.

Progress at camp

We're a lot further as a football team than we were a few weeks ago. What does that mean? I don't know. You don't know until you play the first game.

Injuries

A lot of defensive and young guys. We don't have anybody in red shirts that we don't think will be back by the first game.

Defensive ends

LJ Collier giving us some depth. We're going to need him at both DE and DT. Gives us a bigger DE against some teams we have to play. Ben Banogu and Matt Boesen have had great practices. It will all be good.

Quarterbacks

I think Kenny is playing as well as we've ever seen him play. Now it's about seeing it in a game. That's where everybody gets judged. I think Sonnie Cumbie has done a great job of preparing him. He has to handle adversity and has done that so far in the scrimmages. That's what all the great quarterbacks do.

Cornerbacks

Ranthony hasn't practiced in a week, but everybody will be back. Right now we're further ahead than last year.

Offensive line

We're getting Lucas Niang back now. Since our defensive ends have gotten better with Ben and Boesen, it's made our tackles better. We weren't giving them a lot of competition before.

Linebackers

Montrel Wilson still hasn't practiced much in two a days. Arico Evans is practicing with Travin Howard. Sammy Douglas has had the best camp he's ever had since he's been here. Alec Dunham and Monrel gives us five. That made us feel good about moving Ty Summers to defensive end. Sammy had to fight academically to graduate, but it's been fun for him and I hope he has a great year. That's for all of our seniors.
