Atanza Vongor and Justin Rogers to do some recruiting at The Opening

The Opening in Beaverton, OR will get under way later today and two members of #CarterBoys18 are participating with the hopes of bringing back a few more commitments with them.

Four-Star safety Atanza Vongor and Four-Star quarterback Justin Rogers, two of the 2018 class' highest profile players are heading to Oregon to compete in the annual summer showcase from June 28 - July 3 at the Nike headquarters. The players will compete in skills competitions against other top talents from around the country. Both Vongor and Rogers have said they have some guys in mind that they are looking to add the steadily rising 2018 TCU Football class with them. Let's take a look at some of the TCU targets who will also be competing in Oregon.

Chase is quickly rising up the ranks of the top receivers in the country and he will be making his decision between the Horned Frogs and LSU on July 2nd.

Many believe TCU to be the favorite for the talented receiver from Louisiana but LSU is making a big push late for Chase and he visited LSU on Saturday before stopping by TCU on Sunday after playing in the 7v7 Pylon Challenge with TCU commit Justin Rogers. One last push by Rogers and Vongor could get yet another talented player from "The Boot" to make his future home in Fort Worth.

Another receiver that Rogers will be doing his best to get closer to a decision is his high school teammate Terrace Marshall Jr.

Marshall recently released a Top 4 list with a mystery team and it is well known in his circles that the mystery team is in fact TCU. The Horned Frogs were the first team to offer both he and Rogers back when they were both playing JV football and that has some meaning to him. With two of his Team Vapor Speed teammates in his ear and the possibility that Chase could also commit while in Oregon, Marshall made get the itch to make a decision before his slated December timeline.

While Bush isn't playing on the same team as Rogers, it shouldn't slow down the recruitment any. Bush recently visited TCU on an unofficial visit to check in with coaches and see where the recruitment stands. Like Marshall, Bush isn't likely to make a decision until December once he figures out where he will be taking his visits, but TCU is still high on his list and Rogers would love to have another big, fast receiver to throw to in Fort Worth.

Let's not think that it all falls on the shoulders of Justin Rogers when it comes to recruiting either. Atanza Vongor was one of the first pledges to join #CarterBoys18 and he is the local tie to the Horned Frogs. While Rogers is making waves throughout Louisiana, Vongor is looking to keep the Texas boys home, and there are a couple of fellow Texan defensive backs playing on Team Vapor Speed as well.

So far in the 2018 class TCU has added two safeties (Vongor, Trevon Moehrig-Woodard) and one cornerback (Eddie Smith). In the pass-happy Big 12 you need outside corners and slot corners. Green, like Smith is one of the taller corners that TCU is targeting in 2018. Vongor and Green already know each other from the Rivals camp in Dallas earlier this spring.

Another Houston area cornerback and one of the top priorities for TCU, Jamison plays much bigger than his size. Jamison is also a skilled kick returner and playmaker with the ball in his hands. TCU and Texas are both pushing hard for the services of Jamison and having Atanza Vongor and Justin Rogers on his team this week can't hurt the Horned Frogs chances.

A defensive back's best friend is a good pass-rusher and Ronnie Perkins is just that. Perkins could be the highest caliber defensive lineman TCU could land before signing day and Atanza Vongor needs to be in his ear over the next few days planting the TCU seed. Perkins released a Top 12 on May 24th with no timetable on when the list will be cut down or when a commitment could be coming.

It's another big weekend for recruiting because we are now in another dead period. No coach contact for the next month, so it's up to the players themselves to go out and try to sell TCU to their peers. If Rogers and Vongor bring home just one more commit it will have been a successful venture, but even if they don't, having two recruits on one of the highest stages representing TCU is a win in itself.
