TCU adds commitment from Graham athlete Mike Freeze

The Freeze on TCU recruiting appears to be over.

The commits were coming fast and furious for a couple weeks, but once spring ball started, the line of commitments recently slowed.

But TCU landed its 10th commit of the 2015 class Sunday morning when Graham athlete Mike Freeze visited Fort Worth and decided to commit.

"It was my first time actually visiting TCU, but I've been to Fort Worth a lot and I love it," Freeze said.

Even though he hadn't been on campus before, he made up his mind two weeks ago that he was going to commit today.

"After looking at everything TCU had to offer, I decided two weeks ago I was going to commit," Freeze said. "I did a lot of looking at the program online and really liked it."

He also loves TCU as a school, but he doesn't know what he wants to study yet.

"I just loved the campus and it's definitely a place where I can get a good education no matter what I pick to study," Freeze said.

While he doesn't know what he's going to study in classes, he knows he's going to get to study defense under one of the best in the country with Gary Patterson.

"I wanted to go somewhere that has good coaching and with coach P, you're getting some of the best coaching in the nation," Freeze said. "Really, I'm just excited about everything. I can't wait to go up there and play."

He has to wait almost a full year before he can graduate from Graham and about 14 months before he can begin practicing as a Horned Frog.

But that gives him plenty of time to maybe figure out what position is best for him. He has played mostly safety for the Steers, as he helped lead them to the 3A state semifinals last year. Graham took a 38-14 loss to the eventual champions in the Final Four.

TCU is looking at him as either a safety or a linebacker, Freeze said, but he doesn't really care where he goes.

No matter where he goes, the 6-3, 215-pound tackling machine showed last year that he has no issue going anywhere on the field to make a tackle. He was second on the team with 92 total tackles, 81 solo. He also had five interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and five pass deflections as he filled up the stat sheet.

He's got good speed and good football instincts so whichever spot Patterson and the Frogs decide to use him, he will fit right in.

Freeze picked TCU over Texas Tech, Bowling Green and Liberty.

Don't expect TCU to be done recruiting in Graham just because the Frogs have Freeze in the fold. His teammate Dustin McWhorter has interest in TCU and just picked up his first offer, from Colorado State, last month.
