Breaking down the Zaycoven Henderson commitment

TCU picked up its third commitment of the 2014 class when Longview defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson pledged to the Horned Frogs after Sunday's junior day.

Henderson joins Dallas Lincoln receiver Emanuel Porter and Keller Fossil Ridge defensive back Nick Foster as the Frogs' current 2014 commits.

We'll catch up with Henderson for a full interview tonight, but in the meantime we analyzed what his commitment means to TCU:

The Basics: 6-foot-2, 270 pounds; No. 74 in Lone Star 100.

The Competition: Henderson held several big-time offers, his list including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Baylor and SMU.

The Backstory: TCU extended an offer to Henderson three weeks ago, at the time giving him his third offer. Oklahoma and Baylor had previously offered. After that, the dominoes started to fall with Texas Tech, Ole Miss and Oklahoma State all throwing their names into the hat. When we first talked to Henderson on Feb. 11, Oklahoma was the clear favorite. Henderson nearly committed on the spot during the Sooners' junior day earlier in the month, and was very impressed after touring the OU campus. Things apparently changed drastically in the past two weeks, as TCU, likely aided by Henderson's strong relationship with co-offensive coordinator Jarrett Anderson, moved to the top of his list.

The Impact: TCU surely isn't thin at defensive tackle (at least not now), but what an improvement the Frogs have seen at the future position in past week. First, it was the signing of four-star defensive tackle Tevin Lawson for the 2013 class, and now TCU adds a rising star in Henderson, who schools definitely won't be leaving alone over the next 12 months. Interest in the Longview native picked up rapidly earlier in the month, and despite his commitment to the Frogs, I suspect that interest to continue to grow. That's the kind of talent TCU got Sunday. He's mobile and strong and a legit 6-foot-2, which is great size for a defensive tackle. This was a big early addition for the Frogs.

The Next Step: TCU is far from being done on the defensive line. The Frogs have plenty of targets remaining there, including Gerald Willis III, Peyton Newell, Grant Blankenship and Anthony Villalobos, just to name a few. Henderson is certainly a fine place to start, though.
