OU meets Treadwell's expectations

Oklahoma is a school five-star wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has wanted to visit since late last spring, but several attempted trips to Norman ended up postponed. This weekend the Crete-Monee (Ill.) prospect finally made it down to see the Sooners.

"It met my expectations in a lot of ways. When you are down there it is about winning. All these visits are kind of different, but I enjoyed my time. They have a good group of guys down there and that's what I liked the most."

Treadwell was hosted on his official visit by Oklahoma freshman running back David Smith, a fellow Chicagoland native.

"I was around most of the freshman who were in the dorms," Treadwell said. "We all kind of hung together and I fit in very well with everybody that I met. I met Kenny Stills and hung around with him. He was pretty cool, and I had a nice relationship with all the guys."

Coming off an official visit to Ole Miss two weekends ago, one of the biggest positives for the Rebels was Treadwell's mother's enjoyment of the visit. His mother did not join him on the visit to Oklahoma, though he did plan to relay his experiences to her after returning home.

The offensive fit is another aspect Treadwell has weighed heavily during his recruiting process, and he talked extensively about that with the Sooners' coaching staff.

"I talked to Coach (Jay) Norvell, Coach (Josh) Heupel and Coach (Bob) Stoops," Treadwell said. "They basically explained to me they have some good receivers on the depth chart with the guys coming from last year, but with Kenny probably leaving early and Justin Brown being a senior this year I could come in and compete for a spot as a true freshman. That really caught my interest.

"Playing in that style of offense, knowing that they throw the ball a lot, will give me the chance to make plays. Coach Heupel just explained to me about the offense and Kenny was explaining to me the difference between their offense and Oklahoma State's."

Going into this weekend's official visit Treadwell had Ole Miss out front as his leader followed by Oklahoma at No. 2. The official to Norman increased his perception of the Sooners, though.

"This trip made me more interested [in Oklahoma]," Treadwell said. "Visiting my two top schools and trying to compare both of them, they both want to throw the ball and that's what they want to do.

"The position coaches -- Coach Norvell and Coach [Grant] Heard -- I have good relationships with both of them. I know you can't pick a school just off position coaches, so it is going to come down where I am going to be most comfortable at and if something happens with football, I will still be taken care of."

With National Signing Day drawing closer, Treadwell has continued to pare his list. Michigan was listed in his top four in recent weeks, but Treadwell said the Wolverines have been eliminated and he is down to three schools. Oklahoma State remains in the mix and the Cowboys are set to receive his next official visit.

"Oklahoma State (will receive a visit) for sure, but that's about it," Treadwell said. "I think that is going to be Jan. 11th."

The 6-foot-3, 198-pound Treadwell is the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2013 class and the No. 10 overall player in the country. He plans to make his decision in January, before National Signing Day, but has no set date for that announcement yet.
