Athletes galore in the sunshine state

SOCIAL: Follow on Twitter | Friend on Facebook

Athletes - how do you define this position? For the most part, it's the players that play both ways and make an impact no matter where they line up. Players that - when they get to college - may have a choice of which side of the ball to line up on. It's also a way of recognizing players who stand out from the crowd. Here's our 'five top athletes' in Florida - plus a few more.

Top 2013 Athletes

Derrick Henry
6-foot-3 |232 | Yulee)
Buzz: Henry is the type of player that makes an impact wherever he lines up on the field. He's an impact running back, a great kick returner - a blazing defensive back - etc. Listed as the No. 29 in the Rivals100, he verbally committed to the University of Georgia during his junior year. Nee's Notes: (Rivals.com Florida recruiting analyst Chris Nee) "Henry's unique size - 6-foot-3, 230-plus pounds - at the running back position has been well documented and the question remains whether or not he belongs in the offensive backfield in college. Size-wise, he looks more like a tight end or defensive end than a running back."

Jayron Kearse
6-foot-4 |195 | South Fort Myers
Buzz: Kearse transferred from Cypress Lake (Fort Myers) to South Fort Myers for his senior season. Ranked No. 218 overall in the Rivals250, Kearse not only transferred from Cypress Lake, but decommitted from Auburn and gave a 'strong verbal' to the University of Miami, in January. Kearse lined up at quarterback in an option offense in 2011 and had 1,400 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. As a sophomore Kearse had 1,049 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, adding five passing scores. He is the nephew of former NFL star Javon Kearse

Schools in the mix:Clemson, South Florida, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina (18 total)

Charles Williams
6-foot-2|180 | Champagnat Catholic (Miami)
Buzz: Williams is a versatile player that plays both sides of the ball very well. He is a dua-threat quarterback that can find a hole and thread the needle. At linebacker, he patrols the outside and has quick speed to get to the ball. Veteran recruiting analyst Larry Blustein said of Williams "He'll be a BCS prospect with two years of experience under his belt."
Schools in the mix: Bethune Cookman, Bowling Green, Louisville, Massachusetts, Western Kentucky (10 total offers)

Tshumbi Johnson
5-foot-11 | 185 | Immokalee
Buzz: Johnson edged out Khalid Thomas of Godby (Tallahassee) for the fifth spot on our list - and not by much. His abilities as a signal caller Nee's Notes: "Johnson has a live arm and could play quarterback at the next level in the right system but is more than likely going to be looked at as a prospective wide receiver or defensive back. He has good size at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds. He doesn't shy away from contact and quickly pops up after taking, or delivering, a big hit"
Schools in the mix:verbally committed to University of South Florida (February 15, 2012).
