This weekend Michigan State will be holding its 1-Day Player Camp and top prospects from around the Midwest will be in attendance. One of the most anticipated campers will be cornerback Jaleel Hytchye of LaSalle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with the 5-foot-11, 165-pound standout and has the latest on his recruitment.
Hytchye is one of the top cornerback prospect in the Midwest for the class and 2013 and he has an impressive list of scholarship offers which includes BCS programs such as Boston College, Northwestern, Purdue, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville, Indiana and Pittsburgh. In all Hytchye has over a dozen scholarship offers and is looking to add another this weekend when he travels to East Lansing. SpartanMag.com spoke with Hytchye about Michigan State.
"I am going up to camp on Saturday," Hytchye said. "The coaches have told me that Coach Dantonio wants to see me in person. I was there back in February and liked what I saw. I am looking forward to learning more about them."
Spartan Coach Harlon Barnett is serving as the primary recruiter of Hytchye and he would certainly like to see the LaSalle product grab a Michigan State offer this weekend and decide to become a member of the green and White. In recent years Coach Barnett has been able to sign several outstanding players from the Cincinnati area including the commitment this year of 4-star linebacker Shane Jones.
The Spartans are being very selective at cornerback and several prospects will be on campus this weekend looking to earn a scholarship, but Hytchye might be the most accomplished of the bunch. We spoke with him about what he is looking for in a college.
"I am looking for a place that has a great variety of majors and where I can have academic success," Hytchye said. "I want to go to a school where I will have a chance to play early and have an opportunity to prepare myself for the NFL."
Michigan State will graduate Ohio product and All-Big ten cornerback Johnny Adams after this year and he is expected to be a high NFL draft pick. That fact right there cannot hurt the Spartans chances if they decide to extend Hytchye a scholarship. He talked with us about making his decision.
"I will make my choice when I feel the time is right," he stated. "I want to be someplace where they have great coaches, fans and people surrounding the program. I want to be part of a program that is hungry to compete for conference and BCS championships."
LaSalle High school is an outstanding program and they routinely play one of the toughest schedules in all of Ohio. The plays teams like Archbishop Moeller, Cincinnati Elder and St Xavier every year and last year they defeated Michigan powerhouse Birmingham Brother Rice. You can be sure that whatever school Hytchye arrives at he will be well schooled in the fundamentals and ready to compete.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep an eye out on Hytchye this weekend and will have all the latest details on his recruitment as it unfolds.
