February 9, 2013Allen linebacker Christian Sam is still waiting to hear more from TCU, but the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder is picking up plenty of interest other schools.
And his momentum on the recruiting front appears to be growing.
Sam and teammate Tay Evans received a visit earlier in the week from Oklahoma linebackers coach Tim Kish.
Sam and Evans both have offers from Boise State and SMU.
Sam attended Baylor's junior day last weekend and enjoyed his time there, he said.
"It was nice," he said. "It was a good environment. And it was nice to be around some of the other top guys."
Sam also held a junior day invite from Arizona, but opted for Baylor instead because Waco was an easier trip.
Those two schools, along with Oklahoma and his two offers are the main teams pursuing Sam at the moment, he said.
But if TCU came into the picture, Sam would be very open to the Frogs.
"TCU would be on my radar for sure," he said. "I've been liking TCU for a while. I've been to the campus multiple times. I really like the campus. I know they have good academics down there."
Sam currently doesn't have any more junior days scheduled, but he does plan on attending several camps throughout the spring.
He already made an impact at one camp a couple weeks ago.
Sam took home linebacker MVP honors Jan. 27 at the Next Level Athlete Camp in Lancaster.
"I think I did pretty good [at the NLA camp]," Sam said. "Maybe I could've done better, but there was a lot of competition out there."
Sam's key to success during the day?
"You have to be precise, especially during the one-on-one drills," he said. "It was sort of good to know it was your hard work being rewarded."
Sam collected 57 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one interception, one defensive touchdown and a forced fumble last season. Allen beat Houston Lamar to win the 5A Division One state title.
