TCU has confirmed that Frog running back Waymon James is out for the season after sustaining an injury during last Saturday's game against Kansas.
James led TCU in yards in the Frogs' first two games, picking up 168 on 17 carries and one touchdown. He was fourth nationally among the top-56 rushers in yards per carry with 9.9.
James was also key on the Frogs' kick return team, leading the charge with 59 yards on three returns.
James, along with co-starter Matthew Tucker, both were listed on the Doak Walker Award watch list, making TCU the only school in the nation to have two backs featured on the list.
Tucker will become the lone starter, running for 100 yards on 19 carries. Backing him up with significantly increased carries will be freshman B.J. Catalon (61 yards, 15 carries) and senior Aundre Dean (29 yards, 8 carries).
TCU coach Gary Patterson said Tuesday that backup quarterback Trevone Boykin could be used as a fourth running back if needed. The redshirt freshman made his collegiate debut against Grambling State, running for 57 yards on five carries, including a 34-yard touchdown run.
Through two games, TCU has run the ball 78 times and passed 47 times. The Frogs have gained a total of 473 yards, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and 203.5 yards per game.
