NC State overcomes slow start to win big
Even a 35-point victory can leave some concerns.
It wasn't a vintage North Carolina State performance, but it was good enough to blow out North Carolina-Pembroke 76-41 on Tuesday in the second and final exhibition game at the RBC Center.
The Wolfpack weren't able to match the intensity of the Barton College exhibition game, a 94-57 victory Nov. 1, finding it hard to get into an offensive rhythm against UNC-Pembroke's sagging 2-3 zone. NCSU struggled from 3-point range, shooting 8 of 25 from beyond the arc.
"I wasn't curious to see where [increased energy] would come from, I was just hoping it was coming," NC State coach Sidney Lowe said. "We certainly didn't have it early, but I thought in the second half we came out with intensity, especially on the defensive end."
NC State came out aggressive in the second half after a sluggish first half, outscoring the UNC-Pembroke 44-19.
"I thought we picked it up a little better and held them to 19 points in the half," Lowe said. "Offensively, I thought we were real patient against their zone. We moved it around and we didn't take the first quick shot that we saw."
