Beating Texas Would Right the Wrongs of the Season

TCU has wrapped up preparation for their Thanksgiving showdown with the Texas Longhorns tomorrow night in Austin. It has been an up and down season for the Frogs but a win Thursday night would get the bad taste out of everyone's mouth. "We're not where we need to be at 6-4, but we've been in every ballgame" Coach Patterson said on Tuesday. The Frogs aren't where they need to be, but a win over Texas could get this thing moving in the right direction to close out the season.

TCU fans know the story…drug busts, drunk driving, injuries, 21 different players making their first career start, and a partridge in a pear tree. (It's close enough to Christmas to throw that in there right?) Although the Frogs sit at 6-4 and are bowl eligible, no coaches, players, or fans are satisfied with that record. A win over Texas on Thursday night would right all of the wrongs from this season though.

I am not putting the Longhorns on a pedestal, but let's be honest, if there was one team on TCU's schedule this season that all the fans wanted to beat, it was Texas. They are the evil empire. They have the Longhorn Network. They are they New York Yankees of college football without all the championships. A win over Texas would make this dreadful season seem not near as bad. Texas is the type of program that always looked down at the success TCU has had over the last decade. It would be great if the Frogs went down to Austin and pulled off the win in their own house. Plus, it would be really good for recruiting.

Not only do I want the Frogs to win for bragging right purposes, I think the goal for the team at this point should be to finish the season with a winning conference record. TCU sits at 3-4 in conference play, to finish above .500 the Frogs would need to beat Texas and Oklahoma. It is a tall task, but it can be done. To accomplish that, you have to start with a win against the Longhorns tomorrow night.

I don't know who is going to win the game Thursday night, but I know the Frogs will play hard, and they will keep the game close. Can they come up with a few key plays to turn the tide in their direction? I wouldn't bet against them. This team plays its best with their back against the wall. All I want for Thanksgiving is a win over Texas. Time to close out the last weeks of this season on a high note.
