Breaking down Saturday's Big 12 slate
Ryan Osborne
PurpleMenace.com TCU hosts Iowa State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in what will be the Horned Frogs' first Big 12 home game. TCU beat SMU 24-16 last week in Dallas, while the Cyclones are coming off a 24-13 loss at home to Texas Tech.
Quarterback Casey Pachall is suspended indefinitely following his arrest early Thursday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. That means redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin will get the start against an ISU defense that features two preseason all-Big 12 linebackers in A.J. Klein and Jake Knott. Klein, a preseason second team all-American, had an 87-yard interception return for touchdown against the Red Raiders.
Here's a quick look at the other three Big 12 games this week:
Kansas vs. Kansas State
When: Saturday, 11 a.m. Where: Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, Kan.
What it means to the Big 12: Kansas State shouldn't have much trouble with the Jayhawks, who are 1-3 and haven't beaten an FBS team this season. The Wildcats will be going for their second league win after beating Oklahoma two weeks ago on the road.
What it means to TCU: The Horned Frogs limited the Kansas passing game, forcing quarterback Dayne Crist into 19-of-39 passing and keeping the Jayhawks out of end zone. The Wildcats have had one of the more solid defenses in the Big 12 this year. It'll be interesting to see how they contain Crist. It could serve as somewhat of a measuring stick for the TCU defense.
