Non-conference opponents aren't always as challenging as fans want

As the first Saturday of college football comes to a close, fans watch as a familiar sight is seen again: top teams unleashing on bottom of the barrel schools.
On Saturday, ranked teams outscored FCS schools 279-57 highlighted by #19 Oklahoma State's 84-0 thrashing of Savannah State.
TCU is ranked as high as #17 and begins its first season in the Big 12 against FCS opponent Grambling State. Much of Thursday's media time with Head Coach Gary Patterson was spent discussing why big-time programs schedule games that many call cupcake games.
