Two quarterbacks begin to separate from pack
Coming into this spring, Louisiana Tech fans were anxious to see which quarterback would emerge as the leader. Recently, two have begun to separate from the pack, Colby Cameron and Taylor Burch.
"We are working Zach [Griffith] and Taylor [Burch] right now. But, I would say in the last couple days Taylor has probably stepped up a bit and is playing at a high level," said Dykes.
Early in the spring, Burch looked Rusty. Burch has the stature to withstand lots of reps in practice while Zach Griffith seems to be wearing down from all the reps he's getting in practice. The more reps Burch gets the better he looks and the more comfortable he seems.
"The great thing about Taylor [Burch] is he's a big strong guy so you can't really bother his arm," Dykes said of Burch.
Burch showed more quickness than anyone has seen out of him since he arrived on campus with a long run. The question of his mobility seems to be disappearing.
Cameron's work in the off-season, highlighted here, has proven to make him the most consistent quarterback thus far in spring. His timing with the receivers and knowing where to put the ball is what is the most impressive. His arm mechanics are still a little unconventional at times but that is also becoming more consistent.
The second string offensive line made up of mostly the junior college players Dykes and his staff brought in this year are struggling right now. They are getting better, but conditioning is a major concern right now.
