Defense making strides under DeRuyter
Texas A&M's new 3-4 defense was revealed to 15,000 fans at Saturday's Maroon and White game. The defense has been a problem for the Aggies for the past decade or longer, but A&M fans hope the fourth defensive coordinator in the past eight years, Tim DeRuyter, is the answer.
"The environment was great," DeRuyter said of the spring game. "I wish we had played a little bit better. We were a little sloppy today. We came out with the thought of being very vanilla, but we fit some things fairly well. Our offense made some plays and then we started peppering in some blitzes that we wanted to hold back but we started playing better after that."
